QUEENS-Leaders from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Tempco Glass Fabrication-a Queens-based firm that specializes in glass production for the building construction and home improvement industries-met today in Flushing to celebrate the expansion of Tempco's business operations. Last year, Tempco was awarded 340 kilowatts (kW) of power by NYPA to support the firm's $1.4 million expansion, with a commitment to create 15 jobs. This month, Tempco began drawing down their power allocation to support its acquisition of cutting-edge glass processing equipment that will help the firm better serve its customers. The power allocation was awarded under the ReCharge NY program, which leverages low-cost power for associated job and capital investment commitments.

"I am pleased to congratulate Tempco on their recent expansion that will help them better serve their community and customer base," said New York Power Authority President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll. "The ReCharge NY program supports 23 firms in Queens with nearly 10 megawatts of low-cost power, supporting more than 8,700 jobs throughout the borough."

Tempco, founded in 2013, was originally awarded 286 kW of ReCharge NY power in 2019 that spurred $1.1 million in private capital investments and supported the retention of 55 jobs. In 2023, Tempco was awarded an additional ReCharge NY power allocation to support its latest expansion. The firm, which is a minority and women-owned business, also participated in the Power Authority's 2023 P-TECH program, allowing local student-interns to conduct an energy audit of their Flushing site.

"We are thrilled to expand Tempco's capabilities with the support of the NYPA's ReCharge NY program," said Tempco Glass Fabrication President Johnson Chen. "This allocation of low-cost power allows us to invest in advanced glass processing technologies, further enhancing our ability to deliver energy-efficient, high-quality architectural glass products to our customers. As a family-owned, minority-owned business, Tempco remains committed to fostering local job creation, innovation, and sustainability. We are proud to partner with NYPA as we continue to grow."

ReCharge NY offers power contracts with terms up to seven years. Half of the power-455 MW-is from NYPA's Niagara and St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt hydroelectric power plants. The remaining 455 MW is power bought by NYPA on the wholesale market.
