HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE #2:

FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR OUR AREA THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING

Broward County Schools Closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024

DAVIE, Fla. - The Town of Davie continues to monitor Hurricane Helene as a flood watch is issued for our area. This means conditions are favorable for flooding; it does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible. A tropical storm warning remains in effect for South Florida, including Davie until further notice.

Please monitor the National Weather Service and/or your local news stations to stay up to date on the latest weather conditions.

Broward County Public Schools

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, September 26, 2024. This includes before and after-school care, after-school activities, field trips, and evening events and classes. Additionally, the Redefining Our Schools Community Meeting scheduled for Thursday at Miramar High School will be rescheduled to a later date.

Town Operations

There are currently no changes to the Town's municipal operations.

Parks and Playground Closures

All Town parks and playgrounds remain open and accessible for use. A rapid impact assessment will be conducted on Thursday, September 26, 2024, to determine if there are any operational changes.

Solid Waste Services

There are no changes to the solid waste services including curbside garbage collection and bulk pickup services for this week.

District Water Bodies

The Town of Davie is working with the South Florida Water Management District and Central Broward Water Control District to ensure that respective water bodies are being lowered in anticipation of Tropical Storm Helene.

If you experience flooding in your home:

Tips to consider should you experience flooding in your home:

  • Stay out of the residence.
  • Do not try to pump the water out.
  • Let the water go down on its own.
  • Stay out of the water - do not walk into the water for any reason.
  • There may be sewage in the water so use good hygiene if you touch the water.
  • The Town of Davie does not pump water out of private properties or residences.
  • Leave your wet/damaged items in the residence until the event is over and the water subsides.
  • For insurance purposes, consider documenting everything that is damaged - make a list and take photos if possible. This is best done once the flooding has stopped and the water has receded.

Residents are strongly urged to remain vigilant and monitor weather forecasts through the week. While the Town of Davie is committed to ensuring the safety of all people, we are asking our residents to help us by reviewing and preparing to implement your emergency plans. Knowing your risk, getting prepared and staying informed are just a few steps you can take.

To stay up to date on the latest updates regarding this weather phenomenon and its impact on Davie, please register for news and announcements and ensure your information is updated in the Town's emergency alerting system, Everbridge.
