Abdourahamane Diallo advocacy work includes founding Guineans Succeeding in America, a nonprofit that fosters relationships between professionals and students of Guinean descent in the United States to promote their academic and career success.
The Obama Foundation announced that Baruch College alumnus Abdourahamane Diallo (BBA '18), founder and chairman of Guineans Succeeding in America, has been named an Obama USA Leader. The nonprofit fosters relationships between professionals and students of Guinean descent in the United States to promote their academic and career success.
The Leaders USA program builds on the Obama Foundation's work to support values-driven changemakers in the country and across the globe. The program focuses on emerging Leaders, 24-45 years old, who aim to "drive lasting and inclusive change across sectors and issues and have at least three years of demonstrated impact."
Over the course of six months, 100 Leaders from across the nation will come together for weekly virtual sessions featuring expert-led discussions, case studies, and peer learning, all aimed at deepening their leadership skills. The Leaders discuss how to move from hope to action through practical tools and training focused on values-based leadership and strengthening democracy.
President Barack Obama expressed his excitement about the program, saying: "Our Leaders program connects and empowers changemakers from around the world who are advancing inclusive and effective solutions to the biggest challenges we face. Together, they bring different perspectives, ideas, and experiences to the table, and our hope is that they'll be able to learn from each other and develop a deep network of support. I'm inspired by their dedication, and look forward to seeing them grow and create lasting, meaningful change in their communities."
Abdourahamane Diallo is a passionate advocate for immigrant communities, economic justice, quality education, language accessibility, social services, and improved job prospects. His work focuses on securing resources and creating policies that address the unique needs of these communities.
In addition to directing Guineans Succeeding in America, Diallo founded the African Support Center, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals through education, skills development, and a supportive network.
"The desire to support and uplift underserved communities has always guided my career path," explains Diallo, who was also Baruch College's first Schwarzman Scholar. "This award represents my commitment to civic engagement, leadership and advocacy."
Diallo's goal is to use the insights gained from the Obama Leaders program to further enhance civic engagement, empower individuals, and create sustainable solutions for communities facing social and economic challenges.
"I want to serve as a leader dedicated to championing equity and opportunity for underrepresented communities both in the U.S. and abroad," Diallo states. "This award provides a platform to refine my skills, build strategic networks, and strengthen my ability to create meaningful impact through public service."
As an immigrant from Guinea, Diallo faced many challenges growing up, experiences that deeply shared his dedication to community empowerment.
Diallo said his "time at Baruch laid a foundation of leadership, resilience and advocacy, which continues to shape my journey and my commitment to making a difference."
The Obama Foundation Leaders USA program seeks to inspire, empower, and connect emerging leaders across the country. The program draws on the Foundation's 'Hope to Action' curriculum to support Leaders in engaging diverse perspectives, building collective power, and making tangible, sustainable progress towards a better world.
The Leaders program launched in Africa in 2018, followed by its expansion to the Asia-Pacific region in 2019, and then to Europe in 2020. The Leaders USA program began in 2023, and this is the first year that all four Leaders programs will run concurrently, allowing for more opportunities for cross-regional collaboration. Upon completion of the program, Leaders will join the Obama Leadership Network, a global alumni community of over 1,000 active changemakers.
