Learn how to use the City's emergency map to quickly see how neighborhoods, including your own, may be directed to evacuate, shelter in place, or take other protective action.

When possible, the City will also use the map to identify evacuation routes, road closures, shelters, or other critical information to guide you to your next step.

This dynamic map is used in real-time by Berkeley's first responders-firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other emergency personnel-to connect the public with the most immediate information available.

The map can be viewed at the address level and includes key landmarks, such as schools and parks. You can enter your address to quickly see the current emergency status for your home, work, school, or other important locations.

Know how to find information for locations you care about-no need to memorize specific zone numbers. Zone numbers may change to adapt to a rapidly evolving emergency.

Sign up for AC Alert to get notified of emergency use of map

To be notified of protective actions, sign up for AC Alert to get instant updates by text, email, and phone by the system used throughout Berkeley and Alameda County.

During emergencies AC Alert messages will keep you informed of impacted zones, zone number changes, send links to affected zones, or provide you with information about protective actions you should take.

Use the map to guide your next step

As an emergency evolves that recommends the public take protective actions, the City will first update the map. This also helps first responders, who will also use the map to guide their response.

After receiving an AC Alert, use the map to find evacuation routes, road closures, or shelter locations that may play a role in the actions you need to take.

To have the online map handy, bookmark it on a browser or save it to your device's home screen. You can also download the Genasys Protect App to monitor important locations such as your home, work, or child's school, and receive real-time alerts about any status changes or emergencies in those zones.

Don't wait for an emergency to strike-make sure you're signed up for AC Alert and know how to use Berkeley's emergency map.
