The City of Richmond invites parents, guardians and caregivers to attend an important information session on gang prevention, tailored to support families within the community. These sessions aim to provide valuable insights and practical strategies for identifying and preventing gang involvement. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from experts from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC, Richmond RCMP and Touchstone Family Association, engage in meaningful discussions and access resources designed to help protect and support their children.

There are two sessions to choose from, available from 6:00 to 8:00pm on:

  • Monday, September 23 in room M.2.004 at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road
  • Tuesday, November 19 in the Performance Hall at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate

Topics include:

  • Recognizing and addressing warning signs of gang involvement
  • Internet tips to help children navigate the digital world safely
  • The significance of maintaining open communication with children and youth
  • Strategies for strengthening connections with children and youth to facilitate challenging conversations
  • Available supports and services for children and youth at risk or actively involved in negative behaviours

These free, in-person sessions are being co-hosted by the City of Richmond's Law and Community Safety division, Richmond RCMP, Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and Touchstone Family Association. The sessions are funded by the federal government's Building Safer Communities Fund to increase awareness and education on youth gangs and violence.
