SCDOT to temporarily close SC 261 over Penny Royal Creek in Georgetown County for repairs

Columbia, S.C. (September 9, 2024) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close SC 261 over Penny Royal Creek in Georgetown County to make culvert repairs beginning September 16. The road is expected to reopen by the end of October.

As part of this closure, a detour route will be implemented using Choppee Road and Carvers Bay Road. A map of the detour can be found below. Please note that SC 261 will be open to local traffic only during the closure, except at the bridge site.

SCDOT asks the public to slow down and pay attention when driving through the work zone. You can plan your route ahead of time by using SCDOT's 511 SC app or by visiting 511sc.org. If you can't avoid the area, SCDOT asks that you use caution and slow down when driving near crews.
