BLACK HILLS STATE UNIVERSITY REPORTS FALL 2024 ENROLLMENT

Black Hills State University recorded an increase in first time freshmen in Fall 2024 for the fourth consecutive year and nearly met the retention record from Fall 2023 at a rate of 71%.

BHSU enrolled 490 first time freshmen for the highest mark in five years. Retention rates have been on the rise and have increased 10% overall since 2020.

"To be up in first time freshmen and hold a consistent retention rate is no easy task," President Steve Elliott said. "As Black Hills State University proudly announces the largest freshmen class we've seen since 2019, I am very pleased with the direction our degree-seeking student population is heading and where BHSU is positioned for the future."

The Fall 2024 headcount is 3,346, while total credit hours sit at 30,844. The Spearfish main campus saw an increase of 15 students.
