Tom Power to Retire; Umair Javed Named New CTIA General Counsel

WASHINGTON - Today, CTIA announced that Tom Power, SVP and General Counsel, will be retiring from the Association later this year. "It's hard to put words to Tom's contributions to our industry," said Meredith Attwell Baker, CTIA President and CEO. "Tom has been critical to the great success of CTIA and the wireless industry for the past 10 years.We are lucky to have had his strong advocacy skills, legal acumen and business savvy leading our efforts."

Umair Javed will serve as CTIA's next General Counsel, effective immediately. Power will assist in the transition for the remainder of the year as Senior Counsel. Kathryn Dall'Asta will support Javed and CTIA's business teams in an expanded role as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Chief of Corporate Affairs and Compliance, where she will oversee the Association's corporate legal matters. Scott Bergmann, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, will continue to represent the industry before the Federal Communications Commission and will report directly to Baker.

Javed currently is Senior Vice President, Spectrum. He joined CTIA last year from the Federal Communications Commission where he served as Chief Counsel in the Office of the Chairwoman. As General Counsel, Javed will continue to lead the Association's spectrum efforts as well as new responsibility for all legal matters and work with the Biden Administration. Baker said, "Umair has quickly become a central member of our senior team and I'm excited for him to continue to enhance our best-in-class legal and advocacy efforts on behalf of the wireless industry."
