CBP officers seize $448K worth of fentanyl at Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations officers assigned to Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged fentanyl valued at approximately $448,050 hidden within a 2015 Chevrolet.

"Our officers' diligence and use of multiple law enforcement tools led to this significant seizure of these dangerous drugs and our streets are safer for it," said (A) Port Director Michael B. Reyes, Brownsville Port of Entry.

Packages containing 19 pounds of fentanyl seized by CBP officers at Brownsville Port of Entry.

The seizure took place on Sunday, Mar. 24, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge when a 39-year-old female United States citizen who resides in Houston, Texas, attempted entry into the United States along with a 38-year-old male United States citizen passenger who also resides in Houston, Texas, in a 2015 Chevrolet. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. While in the secondary inspection area, with the aid of a nonintrusive inspection system and a canine unit, CBP officers discovered 22 packages which contained a total of 19.18 pounds of alleged fentanyl hidden within the vehicle.

The estimated street value of the fentanyl from the seizure is approximately $448,050.

CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and passenger and turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
