Homicide Detectives Arrest Woman for 2023 Death of Her Infant

This week, Seattle Police detectives arrested a woman for the death of her infant that occurred in Ballard last year.

On February 22nd, 2023, patrol officers responded to a report of a deceased baby in the 5300 block of Shilshole Avenue Northwest.

The discovery of the infant was originally reported through the Find It, Fix It app as a deceased animal because there was no menu option for deceased human. The community member incorrectly routed it to Animal Control - and they immediately called the police.

Officers arrived on scene and found human remains in a state of decay concealed in the nearby foliage. They cordoned off the area until detectives with the Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Units arrived and processed the scene.

This incident was updated from suspicious death to the now 74th homicide of last year.

On July 23rd, after a yearslong investigation, detectives interviewed the mother of the deceased infant male. Following their interview, the 41-year-old suspect was arrested for Manslaughter 2nd Degree and booked into King County Jail.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit are assigned to this case.
