Search Warrant Leads to Arrest

On July 31st, 2024, at approximately 2:34 P.M., Detectives from the Narcotics and Gang Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2000 block of Belmont Avenue. Detectives authored a search warrant for the residence with information gathered on possible drug activity going on by 29-year-old Nicholis Smith.

While detectives conducted surveillance, Mr. Smith walked out of the residence carrying a backpack and got into his vehicle parked in front of the residence. As Detectives approached to contact Mr. Smith, he tried to drive off, but one Detective was able to pin Mr. Smith's vehicle between his vehicle and a residence. Smith was given orders to get out of the vehicle, at which time he complied. As Detectives approached Mr. Smith, it was observed that he had a pistol in the left front pocket of his pants. Mr. Smith was taken into custody without incident.

During the search of Mr. Smith's vehicle, Detectives located two different backpacks. The backpack Mr. Smith was seen with had approximately 110 grams of fentanyl pills, 8.3 grams of cocaine, and 2.5 grams of methamphetamine. A pack of dextroamphetamine pills were also located inside the backpack. The second backpack had 6.1 grams of fentanyl inside. On the driver's side floorboard of the vehicle, detectives located an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives cleared the residence, and five other parties were contacted. Three of these parties were arrested on warrants and transported to county jail. During the search of the residence, Detectives located 2 grams of fentanyl, 1.7 grams of methamphetamine, a rifle, and a shotgun. A total of 118.1 grams (1,181 pills) of fentanyl, 8.3 grams of cocaine, 4.2 grams of methamphetamine, cash, a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol were seized.

Mr. Smith is currently on probation due to a March 2023 felony conviction for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The March 2023 conviction resulted from an arrest and search of Mr. Smith's vehicle which found him to be in possession of 114.6 grams of cocaine, .6 grams oxycodone hydrochloride, 136.2 grams heroin, 242.3 grams methamphetamine, 74.6 grams of fentanyl, and a pistol. It should be noted that Mr. Smith only received probation for the 2023 case.
