Risa Dickson Named Interim President

Accomplished Higher Education Leader to Guide University Through Leadership Transition

The University of La Verne is pleased to announce that Risa Dickson, PhD, will assume the role of interim president as the university searches for a permanent leader. Dickson, who has been serving as interim provost, brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to student success, academic excellence, and community collaboration.

"I am honored to continue working alongside the dedicated faculty, staff, and students at the University of La Verne," said Dickson. "My focus will be on fostering a smooth leadership transition, supporting the university's strategic goals, and ensuring we remain well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of our students."

Dickson's distinguished career includes executive roles at the University of Toledo and Palo Alto University through The Registry, a national organization that places interim senior administrators. She has also served as vice president for academic planning and policy at the University of Hawai'i and held several leadership roles during her 24-year tenure at California State University, San Bernardino. Her work has focused on shared governance, strategic planning, academic program development, and initiatives supporting first-generation and underserved students.

"We are thrilled that Dr. Dickson will continue to serve the university in this expanded capacity," said University of La Verne Board Chair Anthony Revier. "Her extensive expertise and commitment to student success make her the ideal leader during this transitional period."

As interim president, Dickson will oversee all aspects of university operations while the search for a permanent president continues. The university anticipates concluding its recruitment process by next summer.

Mark Hicks, a member of the University of La Verne Board of Trustees, has been serving in exemplary form as Acting President since previous President, Pardis Mahdavi, stepped down in June of this year.
