D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Man For Stabbing At East Village Subway Station

October 30, 2024
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of RAYMOND KWOK, 27, for stabbing a 29-year-old man at the 1st Avenue L train subway station in the East Village in September 2024. KWOK is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count of Assault in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. [1]

"Raymond Kwok allegedly stabbed a subway rider in a brutal attack," said District Attorney Bragg. "New Yorkers relying on public transportation deserve to be safe and violence in our transit system, especially with dangerous weapons, will not be tolerated. I wish the victim a full and speedy recovery."

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, on September 20, 2024, at approximately 8:43 p.m., KWOK and the man argued after bumping into each other while the man was walking downstairs at the 1st Avenue L train station, near East 14th Street. A few moments later, as the man continued walking, KWOK stabbed him in the back, causing a laceration, bleeding and pain. The man was eventually transported to Bellevue Hospital where he received stitches.

KWOK fled the scene. He was arrested on September 23, 2024. While arrested, officers recovered a switchblade from KWOK's right pants pocket.

Assistant D.A. Madison Meyer is handling the prosecution of this case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Robert Ferrari (Chief of Trial Bureau 40) and Executive D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Trial Preparation Assistant Julia Colen (Trial Bureau 40) is providing invaluable assistance in this case.

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective John Williams of the Manhattan Transit Crimes Squad and the members of the NYPD Transit Division District 4, particularly Officer Ezahra Zouihar, Officer Octavio Carlo and Officer Saleem Hosein.
