Montana State University to host MSU Debut for new and returning students

BOZEMAN - Montana State University will host its annual MSU Debut series of events to welcome new and returning students to campus. Activities will run Aug. 18-28.

MSU Debut is a campuswide tradition encompassing orientation, move-in, convocation and a variety of engagement events. It's designed to welcome and assist students at the start of each semester, said Chris Pruden, leadership and engagement program manager in MSU's Office of Student Engagement.

"The start of each semester is an impactful time in student life," said Pruden. "I am proud to work with partners across campus to create a welcoming, informative and engaging experience for all students."

Sunday, Aug. 18

  • Food truck rodeo, Romney Oval, 6 to 8 p.m. A night of games, local food trucks, activities and live music. Students eat free. Families are welcome to join.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

  • "M" photo, Bobcat Stadium,2:30 p.m. Incomingstudents will take the traditional "M" photo in Bobcat Stadium.
  • First Year Student Convocation, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse,4 p.m.AuthorTommy Orange will deliver the convocation at MSU's annual opening academic celebration.
  • First meal, Romney Oval, 5:15 p.m. Faculty and staff will serve students a meal to welcome them to the MSU community.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

  • First day welcome tents, across campus. Academic faculty leaders will meet with new students.
  • President's ice cream social, Malone Centennial Mall. President Cruzado will provide ice cream for a treat between classes.

Friday, Aug. 23

  • Catapalooza, Centennial Mall and Romney Oval, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will be introduced to hundreds of student organizations, campus offices and local businesses.
  • MSU Debut concert, Romney Oval, 7 to 9 p.m. MSU will host a nationally touring band, Hunny, and a local student opening act.

Saturday, Aug. 24.

  • Various service projects, across Bozeman, all day. Students may choose to participate in several service projects coordinated by the Office of Student Engagement.

Sunday, Aug. 25.

  • Rock'n the "M," Bridger Foothills trailhead, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. New students will give the "M" a fresh paint job for the beginning of the new semester.

Wednesday, Aug. 28.

  • Bobcat treasure hunt, across campus, 4 to 6 p.m. The adventurous treasure hunt will include prizes, snacks and fun. All participants will be entered in a drawing for a $500 scholarship.
