Sept. 13, don’t miss the UAB Arts Block Party

This free evening of art and music includes a lecture by artist Odili Donald Odita and performances by Alabama musicians Halo Wheeler, Swanglish, The BIG Reveal, and Steph and the Web.Enjoy an unforgettable evening of art, live music and mouthwatering food trucks at the Arts Block Party, 5-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus.

Join UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, ArtPlay Community Education and Arts in Medicine as they officially launch their 2024-2025 programming. The Arts Block Party will take place on 10th Avenue South between 12th and 13th streets South, which will be closed to traffic. The vibrant celebration of culture and arts is free and open to the public.

  • Kick off the night at 5 p.m. with AEIVA with an artist lecture by internationally acclaimed abstract painter Odili Donald Odita, in the ASC's Sirote Theatre.
  • See three new exhibitions of works opening at AEIVA including a mid-career survey of works by Odita; works by Mumbai-born, Los Angeles-based artist Manjari Sharma; and "Outside Lines: Selections from AEIVA's Permanent Collection."
  • Starting at 6 p.m., see live performances from Alabama musicians on an outdoor stage. This year's Arts Block Party will showcase performances by four talented local musicians and bands: Halo Wheeler, Swanglish, The BIG Reveal, and Steph and the Web.
  • There will be fun activities for the whole family in the ArtPlay Kids' Zone and the Arts in Medicine Wellness Zone.
  • Explore the local vendors and enjoy delicious offerings from a selection of food trucks.
