At its regular Board meeting held on Tuesday, the Miami-Dade County School Board approved two construction companies: Lego Construction Co., and M.A.C. Construction Company to complete the General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $26.1 million.
The scope of the project includes the replacement of curtain wall system, windows, doors, and frames in Building 01; upgrades to the HVAC and Emergency Management System in eight buildings; and replacement of flooring, ceiling, and lighting. There will be a new campus-wide fire alarm with voice evacuation system and renovation to the tennis and basketball courts.
Total sub-consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation: 28.10 percent
Total project allocation - $20.9 millionFinal completion - September 2026
John I. Smith K-8 Center - M.A.C. Construction, Inc.has been awarded the construction contract for a new addition and renovation project at John I. Smith K-8 Center. Built in Doral in 1995, the existing campus is comprised of eight buildings on a 10-acre parcel of land. The facility has 1,242 student stations which will increase to 1,347 student stations upon completion of this project.
The proposed scope of work includes a new building addition that will include labs for Art, Band, and Computer; a new dining shelter, and demolition and replacement of the hard courts.
Total Minority/Women Business Enterprises participation: 20.10 percent
Total project allocation - $5.2 million Final completion - September 2025
