BTU pre-course program for a successful start to your studies

BTU pre-course program for a successful start to your studies

By attending study preparation courses, including the "Study success with AI" course, which is unique in Germany, future students at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) have the optimal conditions to prepare themselves for the new challenges of their studies in a targeted manner and free of charge.

While the application deadline for BTU Master's degree courses starting in the winter semester 2024/25 ends on 31 August 2024, prospective students can still apply for 30 courses without admission restrictions for Bachelor's degree courses until 15 September.

The University's Centre for Student Acquisition and Study Preparation - College is offering twelve multi-day online pre-courses on eight key topics as well as a face-to-face course at BTU College's main campus in Cottbus specifically for Bachelor's degree courses. The program starts on 26 August with the Mathematics course. Online preparatory courses on learning skills, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Technical Mechanics, Study Success with AI, Computer Science and the Perspektivum preparatory course, which is aimed at future Architecture students, will follow until October 4.

The preparatory course "Study success with AI" is a novelty

With this innovative offer, BTU is establishing a preparatory course for the first time in Germany that specifically focuses on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve participants' academic success. The course takes place from September 23 to 27 and enables first-year students to use artificial intelligence in three areas that determine academic success: information research, text production and learning support. This integrative use of AI technologies should not only make it easier for students to start their studies, but also support their learning and research processes in the long term. The course was designed by Dirk Jehmlich, BTU alumnus and founder of Blaue Wunder GmbH, and Dr. Andrea Klein, freelance lecturer and author for scientific work.

"With this preparatory course, BTU is setting a milestone in skills-oriented higher education," explains Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt, Academic Director of the College. "The combination of state-of-the-art technology and practice-oriented learning optimally prepares our students for their studies, but also for the demands of the modern world of work and research."

Thepreliminary courses provide the know-how for a successful start to the course. The course instructors help participants to refresh and deepen their knowledge before starting their studies and to close any gaps in their knowledge.
In the preliminary courses, first-year students are provided with the necessary knowledge in a condensed form. Tailored to the later course content, fundamental connections between the respective specialist disciplines and practical knowledge for solving complex problems are presented and discussed. This competence basis gives you the opportunity to start your studies in a relaxed manner.

Online registrations for the preliminary courses can be made on the BTU homepage at https://www.b-tu.de/studium/studienstart/vorkurse/buchungsportal and are possible on an ongoing basis.

About the BTU College Cottbus-Senftenberg

The BTU College was founded in 2013 with the aim of increasing the general inclination to study technical study programmes at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. In addition, the central academic institution aims to improve the study ability of applications, which ideally results in a reduction in the drop-out rate and increased permeability between vocational and tertiary education. The college offers are aimed at prospective students and students in the first and second semesters in particular. The BTU College offers study (subject) information and qualification programmes consisting of standardized modules for all of these groups. Prospective and current students can put together an individual learning program according to their personal preferences, level of knowledge and professional experience.
