Long Beach, CA - For the first time, the City of Long Beach will conduct a summer recess for City Council meetings during the month of July. City Council meetings that would have normally been held on Tuesdays, July 2, 9 and 23 will not take place. The meeting on July 16 will still occur for any Council business that needs to take place during the month of July. City Council meetings will return to normal scheduling on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

This new practice was proposed by Mayor Rex Richardson as part of his recommendations for the City's Fiscal Year 2024 Budget that was adopted by the City Council in September 2023. It is a standard practice for jurisdictions to conduct a legislative recess over the summer months. This newly implemented summer recess brings the City in alignment with the State of California and other major California cities that conduct a summer recess.

While City Council meetings will not take place during July, councilmembers will remain engaged with their constituents and have more opportunities to participate in local community summer events and activities taking place. There are no anticipated impacts to City business due to the summer recess.

Commission and Committee meetings held in July will not be affected by the summer recess and the meeting agendas can be found via the City's OneMeeting portal.

Media inquiries regarding City Council, Commission or Committee meetings may be directed to Monique de la Garza, City Clerk, Office of the City Clerk, at 562.570.6101 or [email protected].
