Q&A with the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime – public order policing

Q&A with the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime - public order policing

The Met is facing increased pressures related to public order policing. It divides this demand into five key areas:

· Protest

· Ceremonials

· Festivals

· Football

· Sport (non-football)

The Israel and Gaza military conflict has led to large-scale and frequent demonstrations in central London. Environmental protests from groups such as Just Stop Oil also pose a policing challenge, often employing tactics of direct action.

In the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee's first monthly Q&A session of the new Mayoral term the Committee will question the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime on how the Met handles the pressures of public order policing, including officer deployment and dealing with protestors.

Members will also consider how the Met handles hate crime, violent crime and neighbourhood policing.

How is the Met responding to these challenges, and what work is the Mayor doing with the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime to support the Met in keeping Londoners safe?

The guests are:

  • Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 17 July from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
