TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Lane Closures at Intersection of Franklin Avenue and North Villere Street Extended

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced the Department of Public Works' (DPW) construction contractor Command Construction Industries, LLC will extend traffic pattern changes near the intersection Franklin Avenue at North Villere Street through August 16 to accommodate the tie-in of a 36" RCP into a box culvert located within the intersection of Franklin Avenue and N. Villere Street.

This work will require temporary lane closures in both lanes. During this time, the parking lane will be closed, and vehicle traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction. The Southbound/Riverbound lane and the Northbound/Lakebound lane will all remain closed during this time.

*Please note: Franklin Avenue is a truck route; trucks will be detoured at North Claiborne Avenue/North Robertson Street for River-bound traffic and Lake-bound trucking traffic will be routed through Saint Claude Avenue.**

Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. Residents are urged to adhere to no parking signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. Please move all vehicles off the street before 7 a.m. on Monday, July 22.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5 million St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA-funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)'s Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2024. Since May 2018, DPW has completed 196 projects at an estimated value of $904 million. Today, 55 roadway projects are under construction at an estimated value $790 million.
