Jul 19, 2024 A8 parking lot EV charging project to begin this month

July 19, 2024 - Our campus is proud to support the state of California's goal to transition to Zero Emission Vehicles to reduce air pollution and combat climate change. To aid in the transition to electric vehicles, CSUCI is participating in Southern California Edison's (SCE) Charge Ready Program. The Charge Ready Program provides financial incentives, expansion of infrastructure, and technical support to facilitate the installation and maintenance of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Through this program, CSUCI will install 30 new EV charging stalls in the A8 parking lot located behind the John Spoor Broome Library. SCE will be providing the campus free infrastructure and construction services for this project, a benefit valued at more than $168,000.

Beginning Monday, July 22 and continuing into the Fall Semester, SCE will coordinate installation of the necessary electrical infrastructure to power the charging stations. The campus will then install the charging hardware. This will require the temporary closure of the A8 Lot while the work is completed. The A8 Lot was chosen for this project due to its permanence as a parking lot and the proximity to available electrical power.

You are encouraged to visit the project website to learn more about the site selection and other important information about this project.

While minimal traffic impacts are anticipated to Fillmore Street, pedestrian traffic adjacent to the construction site may be impacted as contractors work to make the necessary infrastructure connections. Detour signage will be provided identifying alternate routes during this phase of construction. Vehicle traffic and pedestrians should follow all posted detour signs around the construction area.

Advance notification of campus road closures will be provided as needed throughout the duration of the project.
