For the second year, the U.S. Department of State has recognized The University of Texas at Austin as a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader for the University's strong engagement with the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program. There are 51 colleges and universities nationwide recognized this year.
"The University of Texas at Austin is honored to be recognized once again as a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader," said Sonia Feigenbaum, senior vice provost of global engagement and chief international officer. "This designation underscores our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive environment that empowers students to thrive as leaders on the Forty Acres and around the world. I am proud of the exemplary standard of excellence we set in education and global engagement as our partnership with the Fulbright Program continues to open doors for academic and cultural exchange."
Fulbright HSI Leaders demonstrate noteworthy support for Fulbright exchange participants and encourage administrators, faculty and students at HSIs to engage with Fulbright on campus. The initiative also highlights the strength of HSIs as destinations for international students and scholars.
Scott Weinhold, senior bureau official for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, commended the 2024 Fulbright HSI Leaders for their support of the Fulbright Program. "Fulbrighters from HSIs contribute to the Program's goal of reflecting the full diversity, perspectives, and talents of the American people," he said.
Established in 1949, UT's Fulbright Program has ranked among the top 25 Fulbright-scholar-producing institutions during the past 15 years. In alignment with UT Austin's mission of advancing global connections, the University has sent 300 Longhorn Fulbright scholars abroad and welcomed nearly 500 visiting Fulbright scholars from around the globe.
The State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recognized the universities at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities' annual conference. It first began awarding this designation annually in 2021.
