UW-Stevens Point to stage murder mystery ‘The Mousetrap’

See the world's most successful and longest running play and murder mystery at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point this month.

"The Mousetrap," written by master mystery writer Agatha Christie, will be staged in Jenkins Theatre of the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, and Thursday through Saturday Nov. 21-23, with matinees at 2 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 23.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $27 for seniors and UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff and $19 for youth. Tickets will be available for purchase at tickets.uwsp.edu, by calling 715-346-4100 or by visiting the Information and Tickets Office in the Dreyfus University Center in Stevens Point.

The murder mystery has staged more than 29,000 performances since 1952 in London's West End. It originated as a short radio play as birthday present for Queen Mary, partner to George V, in 1947. The production wraps intrigue, sophisticated humor and surprising twists into one narrative.

"Agatha Christie is the master of the murder mystery, and audience members will enjoy the whodunit nature of the story," said Professor Tyler Marchant, director of the production. He challenges everyone to have fun and do their best to solve the riddle of the play in real time.

"There is something delightful about settling into a story where you see the characters are trapped where they are, cut off from others, and the threat is real," said Marchant. "It's like a great novel where you want to keep turning the page to discover what happens next."
