More than $140,000 in Unclaimed Property Returned to Adams & Franklin County Residents & Organizations in a Single Day

Harrisburg, PA - Treasurer Stacy Garrity today announced the return of more than $140,000 worth of unclaimed property to residents and organizations in Adams and Franklin counties at two recent events hosted by Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33).

A total of $143,273.62 was found during the two events. Unclaimed property is often owed to individuals - but it can also belong to businesses, nonprofits and government entities. As a result of work done at these events, more than $92,000 will be returned to the Letterkenny Army Depot, and another $21,000 will be returned to Chambersburg Hospital.

"I'm thrilled that we reunited more than $140,000 with its rightful owners in a single day. It's easy to search, and it makes a huge difference for anyone trying to make ends meet, but it can also be a boost for any organization or business - like these big returns to the Letterkenny Army Depot and the Chambersburg Hospital. I'm glad to work with Sen. Mastriano to get this money back where it belongs, and I encourage everyone to search regularly for unclaimed property for themselves, their family and any organization they're a part of."

"It is both my honor and privilege to help assist the constituents of the 33rd Senate District in their search for their unclaimed property. As the Senator of all the people of Adams and Franklin counties, whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, supporter or opponent, I will always work to provide access to the resources that are made available by the State and its Departments. I want to thank Treasurer Garrity and her Staff for their hard work, diligence and tenacity in reuniting the good folks of Adams and Franklin Counties with the rightful property"

People were able to search for their unclaimed property at two events on Aug. 27, hosted in Gettysburg and Chambersburg. The events, organized by Sen. Mastriano, offered constituents the opportunity to search for unclaimed property with the help of Treasury's outreach staff.

Unclaimed property can include things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, insurance policies, and more. It can also include tangible items, such as contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes. In accordance with state law, businesses must report property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.
