Draft Advisory Opinion

Advisory Opinion Request 2024-08 (Bob Good and Bob Good for Congress) On July 19, the Commission made public a draft advisory opinion.

Request Received

Advisory Opinion Request 2024-09 (Nanette Barragán and Barragán for Congress) On July 19, the Commission made public an advisory opinion request from Congresswoman Nanette Barragán and Barragán for Congress. The requestors ask whether they may use campaign funds to pay for elder care expenses incurred by a candidate and officeholder. The Commission will accept written comments on the request during the 10-day period following publication of the request (no later than July 29) and must issue a response no later than 60 days after the receipt of the complete request, that is, by September 16, 2024.

Comment Received

Advisory Opinion Request 2024-07 (Team Graham) On July 16, the Commission received a comment from Elias Law Group on the advisory opinion request.

Litigation

America First Legal Foundation v. FEC (Case No. 24-517) On July 17, Plaintiffs filed a Motion for Summary Judgment and a Memorandum of Points and Authorities in Support of the Motion for Summary Judgment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Colleen Oliver and Steve Oliver v. FEC (Case No. 24-01166) On July 11, Plaintiffs filed a Complaint for Declaratory and Injunctive Relief in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The Commission has not yet been served with the complaint.

On July 17, Commissioner James E. "Trey" Trainor, III spoke to the San Antonio Chapter of the Federalist Society on recent developments in campaign finance law.

Election Dates. The Commission has posted 2024 Presidential and Congressional Primary Dates, which are subject to change.

Contribution Limits. In addition to the current limits, the Commission has posted an archive of contribution limits that were in effect going back to the 1975-1976 election cycles.

Federal Elections 2020: Election Results for the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

This publication identifies the federal and state agencies responsible for the disclosure of campaign finances, lobbying, personal finances, public financing, candidates on the ballot, election results, spending on state initiatives and other financial filings.

The Presidential Election Campaign Fund Tax Checkoff Chart provides information on balance of the Fund, monthly deposits into the Fund reported by the Department of the Treasury, payments from the Fund as certified by the FEC, and participation rates of taxpayers as reported by the Internal Revenue Service. Other election-related resources

Videos on protecting U.S. elections. The FBI's Protected Voices initiative provides videos designed to help political campaigns protect themselves from foreign influence. The 2019 videos offer guidance on ransomware, business email compromise, supply chain, social media literacy, and foreign influence operations. Other videos, released in 2018, include cyber hygiene topics such as social engineering, patching, router hardening, and app and browser safety.
