WASHINGTON - Kick-off the 2024 holiday season with the National Christmas Tree Lighting! This beloved American tradition, presented by the National Park Service (NPS) and the National Park Foundation (NPF), will feature musical performances and the official lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse at The White House and President's Park in Washington, D.C.

This year, the ceremony and official lighting will take place on Dec. 5. The tree is a cut, 35-foot red spruce from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Virginia, a gift from the USDA Forest Service.

Hosted and with performances by American country artist Mickey Guyton, this year's event will feature Adam Blackstone, Muni Long, Stephen Sanchez, Trombone Shorty, James Taylor, The War and Treaty and Trisha Yearwood singing holiday classics. Airmen of Note, one of six musical ensembles that form the U.S. Air Force Band, will perform.

In partnership with NPF, CBS will broadcast the 2024 ceremony on Friday, Dec. 20 (8 p.m. EST/PST) on the CBS Television Network. The National Christmas Tree Lighting is produced by White Rose Way Entertainment.

First celebrated in 1923 by President Calvin Coolidge, the National Christmas Tree Lighting continues to inspire people everywhere to pause to enjoy cherished traditions and make memories with family and friends in national parks during the holiday season. The National Christmas Tree and 58 smaller trees representing each U.S. state, territory, the District of Columbia and some Bureau of Indian Education and Department of Defense Activity schools, are open to the public from Dec. 7, 2024, through Jan. 1, 2025. Hours are 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Lights turn on near sunset each evening.
