Minister Tajani held telephone conversations with the Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Egypt

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, continues his contacts with partners and key regional players regarding the situation in the Middle East. Today, he had telephone conversations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty.

"The next few hours are crucial to avoid further escalation of the conflict and to reduce tensions. It is time for a broad-based diplomatic offensive, coordinated with our partners, to urge the parties to dialogue. In this regard, coordination with Arab countries is essential for us," Tajani stated, adding that "it is a priority to swiftly conclude the negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, while keeping a close eye on the humanitarian emergency."

The Deputy Prime Minister discussed the Middle East crisis with the Jordanian Minister, expressing appreciation for Jordan's mediating role and reiterating Italy's full willingness to contribute to a potential UN mission led by Arab countries in the Gaza Strip. The two Ministers also agreed on the importance of continuing to convey messages of moderation to the parties. Tajani also thanked his Jordanian colleague for the cooperation in distributing the first shipment of aid that arrived in Amman from Italy on 17 July as part of the Food for Gaza initiative.

In congratulating Minister Abdelatty on his recent appointment, Tajani expressed Italy's support for Egypt's mediation efforts in the Gaza crisis, requesting updated assessments on the prospects of the ongoing talks. He also highlighted Egypt's key role in regional and Mediterranean stability, including in combating illegal immigration and human trafficking.
