UoG statement on the violent protests in the UK

Dear Students and Colleagues

At University of Gloucestershire, we understand the value of community, and the benefit of feeling truly connected to the place where we study and work.

As such, I want to make a clear statement that our community condemns the acts of violence, thuggery and racism that have occurred in streets across the UK in recent days.

We will resist every attempt to polarise us along racial or religious lines.

We will also challenge misinformation, and encourage members of our community to do the same.

The University is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment that helps to promote wellbeing and success regardless of background, with zero tolerance for hate.

Do not hesitate to report any hate or violent crime you witness or experience to the police - online, by phone, or in person.

Support for Students and Colleagues

Please be assured of the University's commitment to supporting each and every member of our community.

This is a time when we need to look out for each other even more than usual, especially as we are not all on campus. We are witnessing or experiencing these violent events from very different places, and some members of our community may be very anxious about what is happening. I encourage you to check in with and offer support to your friends and colleagues.

For students, there is a range of services and contacts available via the Health and Wellbeing dashboard on MyGlos. This includes general and specialist support from the University as well as links to local and national providers.

For colleagues, please know you can access help and support via your manager and through HR. Confidential and impartial support is also available via our Employee Assistance Programme (see Staffnet).

Additionally, our Chaplaincy team are available to students and staff. Email [email protected] or drop into one of our Sanctuary spaces.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or one of the University Leadership Group if you need to.
