July 14: Daily update from the Mayor

Good evening, Galveston. CenterPoint Energy made more strides on the West End today where they were focused on the West Bay substation and its transmission lines. This was one of the last major repairs needed to get many of the West End neighborhoods back online.

Isla Del Sol, Sea Isle and parts of Jamaica Beach remain without power, and CenterPoint Energy is advising these should be on by tomorrow night.

The City of Galveston is still offering ice at Fire Station 7 and 8 for those who need it, and this evening the city closed the cooling center at McGuire Dent because attendance had dropped with power being restored in the area. The cooling center had been operating continuously since Tuesday morning and being able to close the center felt like a milestone in this event.

As a reminder, Galveston residents can apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.

All the best,

Mayor Craig Brown
