Minister Radosław Sikorski attends Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels

Discussing Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Minister Radosław Sikorski pointed to the need for further military support for Ukraine and for reassurance that peace is not possible without Kyiv's participation and approval. He noted that EU member states are bound by the Treaties to observe the principle of loyal cooperation in the area of common foreign and security policy. Poland's chief diplomat called for unblocking the decision to support Ukraine from the European Peace Facility (EPF) and for not holding a bilateral dialogue with Russia on the aggression against Ukraine.

In light of the absence of a Council decision to sanction those responsible for the violent repression of mass protests in Georgia, Minister Radosław Sikorski pointed to the possibility of taking steps at a national level.

On the situation in the Middle East, Minister Radosław Sikorski stressed that stabilising Syria remains of crucial importance for Europe, in the context of limiting both migration and Russia's influence across the region.

He also advocated a continuation of the European Union's existing policy towards Belarus and an appropriate EU response to the presidential elections in that country, scheduled for January.
