Walk a Mile in Her Shoes to be held Oct 26

NEWTON COUNTY, GA - The Newton County Domestic Violence Task Force is hosting its fourth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on the Covington Square starting at noon Saturday, Oct. 26.

The hallmark of the event is to raise public awareness about the prevalence of domestic/family violence. The highlight of the event may be seeing your local leaders receiving a little taste of walking in her shoes as male participants are encouraged to wear heels.

In previous years, Newton County officials and local football coaches have walked around the Covington Square in pumps, heels and wedges.

The walk will take place from noon to 1 p.m. with participants using the sidewalk around the Square Park. Testimonial videos will be shown and informative statistics will read to participants during the walk to provide education on domestic violence.

Donations will also be taken leading up to and during the walk.

Registration is free but a donation of bottled water, Damp Rid, Raid Ant and Roach Spray, Lysol Disinfectant Spray, gallon bleach, paper towels, toilet paper, bed pillows, twin/full sheet sets, twin/full comforters, 2T-5T socks for children and twin/full bed frames for the victims of domestic violence are greatly appreciated.

Donations can be brought to the Newton County Historic Courthouse, 1124 Clark Street, Covington Ga Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or on the day of the event.
