Attorney General Mayes Announces Indictment in Drug Case, Seizure of 150,000 Fentanyl Pills

PHOENIX - Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced that a State Grand Jury has indicted Jesus Januario Sandoval Leyva on multiple charges stemming from a fentanyl seizure. Mr. Sandoval Leyva was arrested by the Arizona Attorney General's Office, the Tempe Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration on October 10, 2024. Approximately 150,000 fentanyl pills were seized by law enforcement during the arrest.
The indictment charges Sandoval Leyva with three felony counts:

  • Conspiracy (Class 2 Felony), in violation of A.R.S. § 13-1003
  • Illegally Conducting an Enterprise (Class 3 Felony), in violation of A.R.S. § 13-2312(B)
  • Possession of a Narcotic Drug for Sale (Fentanyl) in an amount exceeding the statutory threshold (Class 2 Felony), in violation of A.R.S. § 13-3408(A)(2)

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and convicted by a jury.
