Sinema secured multiple additional wins for Fort Huachuca in the annual bipartisan defense legislation.

WASHINGTON - Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with leaders from Fort Huachuca to discuss their priorities and continued support for the Fort - including recent wins the Senator secured for Fort Huachuca in the 2024 annual bipartisan defense legislation.

"Fort Huachuca leads in our national defense to meet the ever-changing nature of war, and I'm ensuring Fort Huachuca has the necessary resources to keep America safe, strong, and prepared," said Sinema.

Last month, Sinema and fellow Arizona Senator Mark Kelly urged the administration to maintain and expand support for Arizona's military bases and defense community - highlighting Arizona's role in helping Ukraine defend itself against Russia. The Senators highlighted how cutting-edge, Arizona-produced military equipment can reinforce Ukraine's defense and strongly recommended utilizing Fort Huachuca to conduct electronic warfare experiments based on the lessons learned from the frontline about Russia's evolving capabilities.

Sinema secured multiple additional wins for Fort Huachuca in the annual 2024 bipartisan defense legislation. Specifically, the legislation:

  • Directs the U.S. Department of Defense to renew focus on Electronic Warfare and Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations, which Fort Huachuca will play a central role in executing.
  • Directs the Joint Chiefs of Staff and DOD Research & Engineering to examine opportunities to strengthen capabilities at electronic warfare ranges like Fort Huachuca.
  • Directs the Army to provide an update on plans to complete the land conveyance between Fort Huachuca and the City of Sierra Vista which supports both municipal use and the Fort's master plan.
  • Supports partnerships between military health facilities and local hospitals and directs an independent study on opportunities to strengthen these partnerships in rural communities near military installations.
  • Increased Impact Aid program funding, which benefits Arizona schools including the Fort Huachuca School District and Sierra Vista Public Schools.
