Mount Vernon Fire Responds to Fire on Homestead Avenue

Mount Vernon, NY - On Saturday, October 5th, at approximately 5:06 p.m., the Mount Vernon Fire Department swiftly responded to a house fire call at 439 Homestead Avenue. Fire units arrived on

the scene by 5:10 p.m. and found the house involved on the Alpha/Bravo corner. Thanks to their rapid response, the fire was contained to one alarm and under control by 7:37 p.m. Five adults and

two children, including a 7-year-old, were inside the residence at the time of the fire. Firefighters were able to remove the occupants from the home and ensured their safety. Fortunately, no serious

injuries were reported. Mutual aid was provided by New Rochelle, which sent an engine and ladder truck, and Eastchester, which provided an additional ladder truck. The Mount Vernon Office of

Emergency Management and the American Red Cross assisted in relocating the displaced residents. In collaboration with the Westchester County Department of Social Services, they provided

housing accommodations and financial assistance to those affected by the fire. Mount Vernon Fire Department leadership has not identified any suspicious activity at this time. The Fire Investigation

Unit is being briefed and will continue the investigation. The Mount Vernon Fire Department highly encourages the use of working smoke alarms in every livable room of your home. Properly

installed and maintained smoke alarms can provide early warnings, helping to save lives and minimize damage in the event of a fire. The Mount Vernon Fire Department extends its gratitude to all

mutual aid units for their prompt assistance and to the residents for their cooperation during this emergency.
