Whip Clark Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of the October 7th Attack on Israel

REVERE, MA - Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark released the following:

"One year ago, Hamas committed acts of evil, murdering more than 1,200 civilians - including forty Americans - and kidnapping hundreds more. Today, families are still mourning. Hostages are still being held by Hamas. We are witnessing a disturbing rise in antisemitism across the globe. The United States stands with Israel and its right to defeat Hamas and other terrorist organizations who threaten Israel's existence.

"The conflict that has ensued in the Middle East as a result of this attack has caused unfathomable devastation. The death toll in Gaza is only mounting and the violence has spread to Lebanon. Innocent families have lost their homes, their loved ones, and their lives.

"We need a lasting ceasefire in the region. That is the only path to security for both the Israeli and Palestinian people.

"House Democrats are fighting to ensure the horrors of October 7 are never repeated - by upholding security, dignity, and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians. I commend the leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris as they work to bring home the remaining hostages, surge humanitarian aid, and forge a lasting peace in the region."
