Criminal Groups Squad detectives appeal for information following Willmot shooting and arson

Thursday, 03 October 2024 09:32:15 AM

Criminal Groups Squad detectives are appealing for information following a public place shooting and arson in Willmot earlier this year.

About 3am on Friday 14 June 2024, emergency services were called to a home on Discovery Avenue, Willmot, following reports of a car fire.

Officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command attended and found a Holden hatchback alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle was destroyed by the fire.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

About 11.40pm the same day, police were called to the same location following reports of shots being fired from the occupants of a Toyota SUV.

Officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command and State Crime Command's Raptor Squad attended and were told several shots had been fired into a home by the occupants of dark coloured Toyota Prado SUV before it fled the scene.

No one was home at the time of the shooting and no injuries were reported.

Police established a second crime scene, and detectives attached to State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad commenced Strike Force Belly to investigate both incidents.

Following investigations, strike force detectives have released CCTV of a dark coloured Toyota Prado SUV - which is believed to have been stolen - travelling southbound on the M7 Motorway near Prestons driving towards the M5 Motorway, shortly after the shooting.

Detectives believe the shooting and arson are linked to an alleged affray that occurred at a Parklea correctional facility on Friday 14 June 2024.

As investigations continue, detectives are urging anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the vehicle or information about the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations under Strike Force Belly continue.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
