City of Artesia Expands Green Fleet as Part of Ongoing Sustainability Initiatives

PRESS RELEASE

The City of Artesia is proud to announce the addition of four Hyundai Kona Electric vehicles to its Public Safety Department, reinforcing the City's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. These fully electric vehicles will not only reduce emissions but also mark another milestone in the City's efforts to transition to a cleaner, greener future.

As part of the City's broader sustainability goals, these vehicles will replace older, gas-powered trucks, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of city operations. The Hyundai Kona Electric, a subcompact SUV with a range of up to 261 miles per charge, is perfectly suited for daily city functions and aligns with Artesia's sustainability goals.

This progress follows the City's recent recognition in the Gateway Cities Energy Action Awards, where Artesia received the gold level award. The award highlights the City's achievements in energy efficiency, including converting conventional streetlight lamps to LED and executing significant improvements on 166th Street. This accolade builds on the City's silver-level award from the previous year and affirms Artesia's consistent efforts to meet and exceed its sustainability targets.

"As we continue to push forward with our sustainability initiatives, these new electric vehicles represent more than just an upgrade in our fleet; they symbolize our enduring commitment to reducing emissions and promoting cleaner energy for the benefit of our community," said Mayor Tony Lima.

The Hyundai Kona EVs are part of an ongoing initiative to reduce the City's environmental impact while ensuring high standards of public safety. These initiatives reflect Artesia's vision of a cleaner future, guided by consistent action and responsible governance.
