Panhellenic Bid Day will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in the Chi Omega Greek Theatre and will be broadcast live on the Greek Life Facebook page.

"We are looking forward to welcoming new members into our University of Arkansas Greek Life community," said Parice S. Bowser, assistant vice chancellor for Greek Life and associate dean of students. "It is truly special that we have the opportunity to bring all the excitement to social media and live broadcast on Facebook for family and friends who cannot attend."

More than 2,138 women participated in recruitment this past week. Potential new members will gather in the Chi Omega Greek Theatre Saturday morning to receive bids to their new organization.

"Bid Day is really the best day of the year. When these young women find their home away from home at the University of Arkansas, it represents a new chapter in their life," said Katherine Ford, Panhellenic president. "These women join chapters full of other young women who offer them encouragement and support, helping tremendously with the transition from home to college life."

Greek Life is also excited to welcome their 12th sorority, Alpha Phi, to the Panhellenic Council. Ford said, "We will be sharing additional information on how to join in the coming days. It is such an exciting time to Go Greek at the University of Arkansas!"

As is usual this time of year, it is expected to be hot and humid. Greek Life staff ask that potential new members and their families and friends in attendance wear appropriate clothing for the weather and stay hydrated.

In addition, after bids are distributed at the theatre, guests may gather on sorority lawns. However, only active members and new members will be allowed in sorority houses.

"Whether at the Greek Theatre or on Maple Street, we want this to be an enjoyable experience, but also a safe one. Every effort should be made to help keep our community safe," Bowser said.

According to the U of A Police Department, there will be several road closures during the Bid Day festivities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Specifically the following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic:

  • Maple and Lindell
  • Douglas and Leverett
  • Douglas and Oakland
  • Douglas and Storer
  • Douglas and Whitham
  • Arkansas and Maple
  • Maple and Wilson
  • West and Lafayette
  • Vandeventer and Maple

"We are beyond excited and ready to distribute bids on Saturday morning!" Bowser added. "We have 11 amazing national award-winning chapters, which continue to make such a difference at the University of Arkansas. So, we are expecting this to be one of the best Bid Day events to date."
