Know What to Do in Case of a Radiation Emergency

Stay Tuned and Prepare

Monitor the local radio and television stations, as well as the County of Chester website and social media sites for emergency information and follow emergency instructions. The County of Chester will notify also notify individuals about response actions through ReadyChesCo.

Prepare for possible evacuation by assembling an emergency kit with three days worth of supplies, provide for pet and livestock needs, and keep off of the road as much as possible.

Keep Phone Lines Open

Do not make unnecessary phone calls so that phone lines remain open for emergency workers. If you require assistance, call the emergency phone numbers broadcast on local radio and television stations, as well as on the County of Chester website and social media sites.

Follow the Directions of State and Local Officials

KI helps protect the thyroid against the harmful effects of radioactive iodine. Individuals should only take KI tablets upon the direction of public health officials and the Governor of Pennsylvania. Do not take KI unless public health officials and the Governor instruct you to do so.
