On November 3, 2024 at approximately 2:06 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue for the report of a carjacking that had just occurred.
Attending Central District General Patrol officers located a 39-year-old male victim suffering from the effects of bear spray. The investigation determined that the victim had been waiting for a friend near the above-mentioned intersection when his driver's side door was suddenly opened. He was hit with bear spray and then forcefully pulled from his vehicle along with his dog. The victim was subsequently robbed of his personal vehicle and run over as it fled. He was treated by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services at the scene for minor injuries, including the effects of bear spray, and medically cleared.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered by police unoccupied in the 400 block of Edmonton Street.
Due to the sudden nature of the assault, the victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect(s). However, a witness who observed the carjacking described the suspect as a male, 5'8" in height.
The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation and are working to determine an updated description of the suspect(s). No arrests have been made at this time.
