JOINT STATEMENT of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Prime Minister of Hungary

At the invitation of the Hungarian side, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan paid a state visit to Hungary on 20 November 2024.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership:

1.Appreciated the political dialogue and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary, reaffirming their commitment to deepening ties across all sectors of mutual interest in the spirit of strategic partnership.

2.With a particular focus on economic relations, they highlighted the critical importance of strengthening the activity of key mechanisms such as the Strategic Council and the Intergovernmental Commission.

3.Emphasized the significance of advancing cooperation in the fields of agriculture, water management and agricultural sciences.

4.Underlining the importance of financial relations, agreed to further develop cooperation in the area of financial services and joint funds.

5.Agreed to continue collaboration in the energy sector and exchange expertise in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear technology.

6.Agreed to enhance cooperation in the transport sector with the objective of increasing mutual connectivity, expanding transport routes, and exchanging expertise in multimodal transport and logistics processes.

7.Recognizing the invaluable shared cultural values of our fraternal nations, they agreed to undertake new initiatives in the field of Turkology and to support the teaching of Kazakh and Hungarian languages at universities in both countries.

8.Emphasized the importance of developing interregional connections and reinstating direct air links to strengthen cooperation in P2P relations and tourism between the two countries.

9.Confirmed the intention to contribute to the strengthening of peace, security and stability at the global and regional levels.

10.Confirmed the importance of the fight against climate change, measures to be taken within the framework of regional cooperation against challenges caused by climate change.

11.The Hungarian side highly appreciates the initiative of the Kazakh side to establish the UN Centre on Sustainable Development for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty and expresses its gratitude for Kazakhstan's ongoing efforts to contribute to strengthening the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons (BTWC), including the possibility of establishing an international agency for biological security.

12.The Kazakh side highly appreciates the active position of Hungary within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States and the intention to hold an informal summit of the Organization in Budapest in 2025.

13.The Kazakh side expressed sincere wishes for the success of Hungary's presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Hungarian side reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kazakhstan's initiatives aimed at complying with the EU regulatory requirements in the area of trade, service provision and technology-transfer in order to enhance the results of the bilateral cooperation, as well as simplifying visa requirements with the European Union.
