FAIR OAKS RANCH, TX - November 9, 2024 - The City of Fair Oaks Ranch announces the resignation of Council Member Chesley Muenchow, Place 6, effective November 6, 2024.
Council Member Muenchow communicated her decision in an official letter to Mayor Greg Maxton, stating her intention to step down due to family health matters and relocation outside the city limits.
Muenchow was first elected in May 2021 to the unexpired Place 6 City Council seat. In 2023, she was re-elected to the City Council without opposition. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community of Fair Oaks Ranch, emphasizing the positive experiences and achievements during her tenure. "I am grateful to you, the city staff, our entire council team, and the residents of Fair Oaks Ranch for allowing me the opportunity to serve our beautiful city," she wrote.
As noted in her letter, Council Member Muenchow has faced significant family health challenges that have required her attention and dedication. Combined with her recent move outside the city, these personal matters have made it difficult for her to continue her role on the City Council.
The City received Council Member Muenchow's official resignation letter on November 6, prior to the City Council meeting held the next evening, where the resignation was publicly acknowledged. The City appreciates her service and commitment to Fair Oaks Ranch and wishes her and her family well during this time.
Next Steps for City Council
With the resignation, the City Council will discuss the process of appointing a new member for the Place 6 seat. Since Muenchow's term was set to expire in May 2026, the City Council will call for a special election in the coming weeks, anticipated to take place in mid- to late-February. The City will work closely with its county partners to determine the best available date for this election.
