Culbert Joins Superior National Forest Staff

NMU 2019 environmental science alumnus Scott Culbert was recently appointed forest ecologist and climate change coordinator with the Superior National Forest in northern Minnesota. Covering three million acres, it is the largest national forest east of the Mississippi and includes the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Culbert's role includes providing ecological and climate change expertise and training, and working with partnership agreements and research permits. He also contributes to the MN Research Reader and Terrestrial Ecological Unit Inventory.

After completing his bachelor's degree at NMU, Culbert went on to earn a master's from the University of Kentucky. He also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal with agroforestry. Prior to the Superior National Forest, Culbert worked as the climate change resource assistant at Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon, Ariz.

According to the release announcing his new appointment, Culbert loves to travel the world and has been to 17 countries. He is an avid volleyball player, hiker, backpacker, baker and reader.
