New passing lanes dedicated along Highway 26

Four new passing lanes along a stretch of state Highway 26 heavily used by students traveling between Puget Sound and Washington State University's Pullman campus were dedicated Wednesday.

The $11.15 million state-funded project, which WSU students helped lobby the Washington Legislature for, is intended to improve safety along the primarily two-lanehighway by providing opportunities to pass slower-moving trucks and other vehicles without crossing into oncoming lanes of traffic.

State and local officials along with WSU Pullman interim Chancellor Dave Cillay and ASWSU Safety Officer Mauro Ramirez spoke at the dedication ceremony.
