UPDATE: Threat to Wheaton North High School Deemed Not Credible – School Day to Resume

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Wheaton Police Department responded to a report from a staff member at Wheaton North High School who overheard students allegedly talking about having a firearm on school property. The Wheaton Police Department and Wheaton North High School placed the school on a secure and teach while the Wheaton Police Department investigated the reported allegation. Officers located the students identified as being involved in this situation and, out of an abundance of caution, conducted a thorough search of the school, including use of police K-9s.

The Wheaton Police Department did not locate a firearm on school premises or any ongoing threat to the students, staff or building and deemed it safe to resume the school day. The secure and teach was lifted at approximately 11:00 a.m. Students and staff may see an increased police presence throughout the day today and tomorrow.

The students who were identified as being involved in this situation may receive disciplinary action as outlined in the Community Unit School District (CUSD) 200 student handbook and may face criminal charges as the criminal investigation is ongoing.

The safety of the Wheaton community, including all students and staff, is the top priority of the Wheaton Police Department. Anytime there is a reported safety concern, the Police Department and CUSD 200 work collaboratively to ensure it is thoroughly investigated and the appropriate resources and disciplinary measures have been implemented.
