Grove: Lack of Planning from Counties and PA Department of State Should not Create a Crisis for Voters

HARRISBURG - State Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) said today the epidemic of voting issues around the Commonwealth is a direct result of poor planning by the Department of State and many Democrat-run counties. Grove also shared concern with Judicial overreach to address these manufactured issues.
"Lack of planning from counties and the Department of State should not create a crisis for voters," State Rep. Seth Grove said. "Over the past four years, Republicans have offered bi-partisan solutions to fix Pennsylvania's election process - such as HB 1300 last session - with no help from the current and former Democrat Governor. Instead, Democrats have allowed the courts to issue confusing and sometimes contradictory rulings and allow counties to create 'early in-person voting' only to botch the process."
Grove pointed to the situation in Bucks County, where voters were disenfranchised due to poor planning and mixed messages from Gov. Josh Shapiro and county officials.
"Voters who went in-person to request a ballot in Bucks County were turned away," Grove added. "This despite Governor Shapiro assuring voters if they 'are in line at a county elections office by 5 P.M. counties must give you an opportunity to apply for your mail ballot.' Governor, 2:45 P.M. is not 5 P.M."
Grove again expressed frustration with the courts, causing more confusion for the voting public.
"We now have the courts violating the law in Bucks County by extending the mail-in ballot application period to Friday, November 1, and another court ruling mail-in ballots do not have to be dated in Philadelphia for a special election - which the PA Supreme Court and a federal court has affirmed they do," Grove said, highlighting the detrimental effects of the courts' actions on the election process.
"The reality is, Democrats have created weaknesses in our election process, and they want to exploit these weaknesses for political gains," Grove concluded. "For the sake of the fairness of our elections, all counties must follow the election code. The courts must immediately stop creating election laws days before an election, and counties must follow the election code as written, not implement ad-hoc policies to benefit their preferred candidate. There is no reason this election should not have a clear winner by the end of the day on November 5th."
