Coretta Scott King Center Presents Freedom Forum Ahead of Election

The Coretta Scott King Center hosted its first Freedom Forum of the season. It is an ongoing series that focuses on contemporary racial and social justice topics.

The focus of this event was "The Urgency of the Moment: The 2024 Election and the Politics of Freedom." Five panelists representing diverse voices talked about the issues that impact their community.

"Our Freedom Forum about the election created an opportunity for our community to come together to talk about some of the urgent issues this election cycle," said Queen Zabriskie, Director of the Coretta Scott King Center for Cultural and Intellectual Freedom.

"Panelists from diverse backgrounds and representing impactful racial and social justice focused organizations offered valuable information about voter registration, issues impacting the local community, as well as important ways for people to stay engaged after the election. Given the success of this event, I am excited about the future conversations we will have as the series continues."

Panelists included: Tom Roberts, President of the Ohio State Conference of the NAACP and former State Senator; Jen Miller, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Ohio; Steve McQueen, 365 Project of Yellow Springs and Voter Outreach Chair of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; Alissa Paolella of Yellow Springs Pride; and Dawn Knickerbocker, Vice President of Philanthropic Strategies and member of National Congress of American Indian Foundation.

In addition to the panelists, DJ The Emissary Scorpius Max joined the event to provide music as people gathered to express themselves and describe the issues they face.
