Homelessness & Homicides Down, City Hall Acting with More Urgency
LOS ANGELES - This week and next, in the run up to her second anniversary in office on December 12, Mayor Karen Bass will crisscross the city to highlight how her administration has made change and delivered results to reduce homelessness and homicides, create jobs, support businesses, combat climate change, better deliver city services and prepare for the World Cup, Olympic and Paralympic Games and other major events.
"Many of our city's greatest challenges, like homelessness, are decades in the making, but because we're working together to make change, we have turned the corner to reduce homelessness for the first time in years, bring down homicides, and make City Hall more responsive to the people of Los Angeles. We have much more work to do, but what we've achieved over the last two years shows we are moving L.A. in a new direction."
Shattering the Status Quo: More Angelenos Off the Street, More Housing Built
Mayor Bass will highlight her comprehensive, urgent effort to change how L.A. confronts the homeless crisis, which resulted in the first decline in homelessness in years, including a 10 percent reduction in street homelessness. She will also announce new year-to-year stats showing more people moved inside. Mayor Bass will also announce progress in building more housing driven by her action to cut red tape and delays.
Making Los Angeles Safer
Mayor Bass will highlight how her public and community safety agenda has reduced homicides and attracted a record number of LAPD applicants while breaking new ground with the appointment of a new LAPD Chief and the new Mayor's Office of Community Safety.
Opening L.A. for Business
After rolling out multiple new business resource programs, Mayor Bass will highlight the impact of supporting thousands of businesses in Los Angeles as well as encouraging new tourism trends.
Building a Greener Los Angeles
Mayor Bass will highlight EV infrastructure expansion, new alternative water access and clean energy options for Angelenos to increase Los Angeles' standing as a global leader in environmental innovation and climate protection.
Improving City Services Ahead of World Events
Mayor Bass will announce how she has worked to improve how City government operates to make it more efficient and more responsive to Angelenos as crucial preparations for events like the World Cup and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games continue.
