Eos to construct new state-of-the-art production lines to produce new battery energy storage systems at Turtle Creek plant

After announcement of conditional loan, Department of Energy finalized a $303.5 million loan guarantee for Eos

Project to create and maintain up to 1,000 union jobs

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced a $303.5 million loan guarantee to Eos Energy Enterprises to build and produce next-generation American-made battery systems at its facility in Turtle Creek, PA. This Eos project is expected to create up to 1,000 salaried and manufacturing jobs, unionized through the United Steelworkers. The loan was guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Energy and was made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, which Senator Casey fought to pass.

"Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, we are making game-changing investments in energy technology manufacturing to ensure that Pennsylvania can continue to power our Nation," said Senator Casey. "I fought for this investment because it will create union jobs and help Mon Valley workers lead the way on clean energy storage production. This project is not only an investment in the technology of tomorrow, but in Pennsylvania workers."

The loan will finance the construction of two state-of-the-art production lines that will produce enough Eos Z3™ zinc-bromide batteries to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 130,000 homes. Eos Z3™ batteries are primarily made from domestically sourced materials and are designed to help meet growing demands for renewable energy. These batteries are more cost efficient to produce, store more energy than previous batteries, and help mitigate grid volatility. This project is expected to create up to 1,000 salaried manufacturing jobs, unionized by the United Steelworkers. Senator Casey announced the U.S. Department of Energy's conditional commitment to Eos in August 2023.

The Inflation Reduction Act created new tax credits to spur advanced manufacturing investments in the United States, particularly in clean energy sectors. Senator Casey also fought to secure a "domestic content" tax credit for companies that manufacture using American-made materials. Eos cited Casey's credit with helping them scale up production of Eos Z3™ batteries. Eos aims to move to 100 percent U.S.-sourced material over time.
