Police from NSW and Victoria have teamed up this morning, to present a cheque for funds raised during last month's Murray River Police District Charity Ball.
Launched in 2022, the Black Tie Ball is held every two years, and this year's was held in conjunction with Victoria Police.
On Saturday October 19 2024, approximately 150 people attended the Murray River Police District Charity Ball at the Commercial Club, Albury, to raise money for NSW Police Legacy and Victoria Police Legacy.
This year's event raised $35,000, to help financially support the families of fallen or injured police officers.
Today (Wednesday 6 November 2024), NSW Police Acting Superintendent Owen Hill and Detective Sergeant Troy Martin, joined Victoria Police Acting Senior Sergeant Justin Foots and Inspector Joel Hughes, to hand over a cheque to both charities at Albury Police Station.
Detective Sergeant Troy Martin has praised the Albury-Wodonga community for their support.
"We were blown away by the community's support for this event. People generously donated their money and time to support the families of both NSW and Victoria Police. It was great this year to partner with Victoria Police so our fundraising efforts could be spread across the border and help even more families of fallen officers," Sgt Martin said.
NSW Police Legacy Chair Superintendent Donna McCarthy APM said the event was a resounding success and has thanked the local community and police for their fundraising efforts.
" NSW Police Legacy is so grateful to the Albury-Wodonga community and it's local police who have gone above and beyond to support the families of police officers who have passed away. The incredible fundraising achievements will help so many. We provide education grants each year to 250 children and take a number on camps twice a year. These funds will go a long way to making sure we can continue this assistance to families," Supt McCarthy said.
The event will return in 2026.
